SUMMER SOLSTICE RITUALS

Fire, ocean, and sardines — the spirit of San Juan in Galicia.

The Summer Solstice is a powerful time of light, transformation, and intention. In Galicia, we celebrate San Juan on June 23rd — one of the most magical nights of the year. We gather by the ocean, light bonfires to burn away the old, and at midnight, we jump over the fire seven times to bring good luck and make our wishes come true.

We dip our feet in the sea for purification.
And of course — we eat grilled sardines!
Simple, smoky, and best enjoyed barefoot with music and laughter by the shore.

One of our most sacred traditions:
We leave a bowl of water with wild herbs (like St. John’s wort, rosemary, lavender) out overnight under the solstice sky. In the morning, we wash our faces with it to welcome clarity, beauty, and protection for the season ahead.

Why not bring this ritual into your own space?
- Prepare your herb bowl tonight.
- Light a small fire and release what no longer serves.
- Charge your By Mariel crystals under the solstice sun.
- Wear your favorite pieces — citrine, clear quartz, rose quartz, or amazonite — to align with the energy of the season.

Wishing you a magical San Juan,
Mariel xx
